Harrison Brothers Hardware has a beautiful history, and it is one that you can help preserve by visiting this store that has been a consistent part of the Huntsville community.
History of Harrison Brothers Hardware
Harrison Brothers Hardware opened the doors of its store in the courthouse square in 1897. The operations of the store were run by brothers Daniel T. and James B. Harrison. When James departed in 1908, Daniel brought his younger brother Robert into the business. Over time both Daniel and Robert also passed away, but thankfully the business was inherited by Robert’s sons John and Daniel who managed the store until 1983. In that year, the Historic Huntsville Foundation (HHF) saved the business from closing its doors forever. The dedication of the HHF has enabled the legacy of the Harrison brothers which started over 120 years ago to live on for future generations.
Sticking with Tradition
When you step into Harrison Brothers Hardware, you will not find woodworking tools or other similar equipment. The shop is more of a mercantile store, selling various American-made products such as housewares and gifts. While the product of the store may have changed, HHF values history and thus has kept the name the same to preserve the Harrison legacy. The Historic Huntsville Foundation is not sticking with tradition in name only. As you explore inside the shop, you will find the appearance remains the same as it was in the hands of the Harrison brothers with the original wood floors, counters, shelves, and even the fixtures. The shop is wonderfully decorated with nostalgic photos and vintage advertising posters.
