In the Rocket City, the go-to park is usually Big Spring Park. There is, however, another hidden gem in south Huntsville. That place is John Hunt Park. The park is named after the pioneer John Hunt, who the city of Huntsville was also named after. There is plenty to do at the park. If you enjoy being outside and being active, then you really should visit John Hunt Park to see all that this place has to offer.
Sand Volleyball Complex
Feel like serving up the volleyball? Get ready to pass, set, and spike it at the Sand Volleyball Complex. The complex is on the John Hunt Park property and covers over 17 acres. At the complex, there are 15 sand volleyball courts. Each court has professional level net systems. You can play into the night, thanks to the Musco LED lights. In between games, you and your friends can take a break under the covered viewing area that has picnic tables. There is also an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand as well as restrooms over at the complex.
Huntsville Tennis Center
If you love tennis, then John Hunt Park also has the Huntsville Tennis Center. The tennis center has six hard courts and 24 clay courts. The courts also have nighttime lighting, so you can continue playing into the evening. While you can show up to the center to play a tennis match for fun with friends, the center does provide tennis lessons. The center also hosts tournament play, league play, and other programs.
Soccer Fields
For soccer fans, John Hunt Park has eight soccer fields available to play a game or two with friends. All eight of the soccer fields are lit up for night play, but Field 1 and Field 2 have been dubbed as the Championship Soccer Stadium fields. The fields offer WiFi, bleacher seats, restrooms, a sound system, and fully working locker rooms.
Cross Country & Mountain Bike Courses
If the park was not impressive already, then be amazed by the Cross Country Course or Mountain Bike Course that the park has. You can have runs or races for a 5K, 6K, 8K, or 10K on the Cross Country Course. You and your family or friends could also trek on the available walking trails that are about 2 miles long. You can enjoy your walk or run, thanks to the five ponds that are dotted along the course. For those who want to mountain bike, you can enjoy the mountain bike course that is over four miles long and offers several obstacles.
No matter what you enjoy doing, you are certain to have a fun time. Get outside and travel to south Huntsville where John Hunt Park is conveniently located off of Airport Road. Come visit John Hunt Park this week!
